Working With Inspiring Artist Betty Beaumont

Uplift Me, Push Me, and Believe in Me

In life, we all meet people that stay, come and go for a certain purpose. I believe every person we come across in our lives has something to offer us, and this is a brief article about someone who I’ve worked with professionally who has made a difference in my life.

Upon applying to a PA program last Fall 2012, I learned I had to volunteer a certain amount of hours not only at the hospital, but another place that was non-medical related. I was excited because I finally had the chance, since high school, to find and do something that interests me other than health and science, like the arts, any type of art. And so I went to nycservice.org to find an art organization to volunteer for, and I found Art Research Collaboration, an organization that combined the things I loved the most:

Art Research Collaboration

I was intrigued instantly by the organization’s motives and called Betty right away. We set up an interview and I was interning with her the very week after. I loved being in the studio with a strong-hearted woman, an artist who was friendly, hard-working, assertive, ambitious, and successful. Betty is a one-of-a-kind artist; she is scientific, curious, and environmentally and economically active in her work. When she says she’s going to do something, she is going to do it, no matter how long it takes in however means necessary.

I believe it was meant for Betty to come into my life at the time that she did. Back in September, I just felt like I began to evolve, and change for the better. I realized my mind was growing, expanding, maturing, and developing more and more, minute after minute. And Betty came, as if she was my mentor; someone to open my small world to a totally new one, to teach me about running a studio and being an artist, and the simple things like making me feel pretty and energized when I felt ugly and physically and mentally exhausted, and someone to temporarily guide me through my invisible struggle of being a broke and broken college kid in my own home, and to do so without even a clue of when I was in need of it the most.

So thank you, Betty Beaumont.
